Mohamed, Kronenberg and Łaszkiewicz demonstrate that green-space accessibility can deteriorate even when parks physically remain in place. Comparing Greater Cairo’s street network between 2011 and 2021, they use space syntax, topological measures and network distance to assess access to 57 public parks. Accessibility declined for 40 parks, and more than a quarter of the study area was negatively affected by streetscape changes. The iconic contribution is relational: a park’s public value depends on the mobility network connecting people to it. Transport infrastructure therefore becomes part of green infrastructure whether planners acknowledge it or not. Methodologically, the paper combines geometric and topological street-network analysis with conventional distance measures. Its wider bridge is to spatial justice: elevated highways, overpasses and motorised transport policies can redistribute environmental access across both marginalised and affluent neighbourhoods without removing a single square metre of green land.
