Aly and Dimitrijevic reveal that Cairo’s green-space problem is simultaneously spatial and informational. Using official numerical data, the paper analyses changes in public parks, street greenery, amenity spaces and publicly managed nurseries, demonstrating continuing loss and unequal distribution. Yet its most important epistemic finding is the fragmentation of the data itself. Green-space information is scattered across agencies, incomplete and difficult to compare, leaving planners without a comprehensive geographical database. The iconic idea is therefore that environmental absence and data absence reinforce one another. Methodologically, the article reconstructs a city-wide picture from dispersed official sources and historical comparisons. Its bridge to infrastructure studies is especially strong: a green system cannot be governed coherently when the informational infrastructure required to see it is institutionally fragmented. The proposed public geographical database becomes part of the ecological project rather than a secondary documentation exercise.
